My Room is DONE!

Here are the last couple of details of my room.  #1- I've run out of ideas, #2 - I don't have any more room to add stuff.  I love it here.  It's my little 'nest'.

Here's the poster I found that I thought was PERFECT.  I suddenly became a 'green' freak and when I saw this poster, I had to have it.

I also re-labeled all my storage bins.

This room is DONE!

Another Room Update ( I thought I was finished with this one)

I keep finding cute stuff to put in my newly decorated room.  Somebody STOP ME!!!  I'm loving the green and I'm starting to see everything green that would look cute in there.  So,,,I found this black awesome chair at Goodwill last week at their 50% off sale day.  The chair was only $10 so I bought TWO.  Not sure where the other one will go yet, but I'll find a spot for that price.

I happened in to Pier 1 Import this past weekend, and this rug was right at the entrance.  Hard to tell from the photo, but the shaggy stuff is multiple shades of the green I have on the wall.  As I was walking through the store, there was a big bin full of cushy stuffed animals.  This little 'green' monkey had fallen out of the barrel, so of course, I figured it was meant to be.  He lives with me now.  I found the green pillow there as well.  All on sale of course,,,,,except for the little monkey.

There is only ONE MORE THING I plan to get for that room.  I was in JoAnne Fabrics on Saturday, and found a wall poster that just sticks to the wall.  It says 'Green is the New Black'.  Gotta have it!  I'll post it when I get it.  I have a coupon so it will be 1/2 off when I go get it.

I get a little carried away sometimes.  :)

More Fun Stuff for My Room

I found these decorative items at Hobby Lobby marked 50% off.  I have them hanging over my window above my desk.  Funny how the color seems to change.  It really is a 'grassy' green color.  More like the green in the print below.

Look at this adorable print I found at Goodwill's 50% off sale yesterday!  It fits perfectly with my animal print/jungle type work room.  You won't believe this, but I only paid $10 for this.  It has some paperwork attached to the backside, so it could very well be a limited edition.  I'll look more closely tonight.  What a STEAL!

'My Space' Makeover

For the last couple of weekends, I have been painting and re-decorating 'my space'. 'My Space' means my combination 'workout-sewing-office-closet-craft-photo studio' room. It's still a work in progress, but thought I'd post the progress so far. The room has been sort of a hodge-podge collection place for all my hobbies. I finally decided I'd update it and organize it.
The first thing I did was paint the walls a very pretty Martha Stewart color called 'Sea of Grass'. When I first put it on the wall, I wasn't sure I was going to like it. I kept going though because I already knew how I wanted to accent the room.
I found these wooden letters at Hobby Lobby, and painted them black. I had some black and white ribbon to make bows to put on the letters and then hung them on the wall.
While I was at Hobby Lobby, I found this Black/Cream checkered fabric, and guestimated the amount I would need to make some little valences. I made these Saturday morning. Very simple, but I like the way they turned out.
Next, I took an old louvered door that we took out of a house that we grazed, and painted it black to use as a background for 'Sabrina'.
Next, I painted the built-in shelves a matte-black. I keep all my craft, photography, sewing books on this shelf. They show up so much better now.
I think that Hobby Lobby is my next most-favorite store to shop besides Goodwill. They have such awesome accessories and they always seem to be having a 50% sale. I found these little tin plates to cover up an old telephone jack. Check out the light switch and electrical plate covers.
I found the little mirror candle holder at Goodwill for $2. I just happened to have a color sample of the room color in my purse and they matched perfectly. (Can you see 'Sabrina' in the mirror?) The lamp also came from Hobby Lobby. Perfect match. The little zoo animals came from the Tyler Zoo when I visited back in the Fall. They 'belong' in this room.
Here is an overview of the whole room. I spend a lot of time in here, and now it is so cozy and comfortable. I love the way it turned out, and I did this all in a weekend. Still a little touch up here and there, but you get the idea.
Have a great week.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year Everyone!
It's been a very busy couple of months so my blogging took a back burner. I hope to settle in now because it is so fun to journal bits and pieces of my daily life and I love all the comments and suggestions I get from everyone.
One of the fun things I did over the holidays, was attend my twin sister, Yvonne's graduation. She earned her Master's Degree at Texas A & M Commerce. Yes, she's a true AGGIE now! 'Gig-em'!

Being twins, Yvonne and I have always shared everything. When we were babies, we shared whichever pacifier was available. We shared one birthday cake, (she got one layer with candles, and I got the other layer with candles. We shared a double stroller. We took baths together forever and ever. HOWEVER,,,,,when I asked if I could just put her cap and gown on for ONE measely photo, to live vicariously through her hard work, she totally refused to give it up. She said she wanted to 'savor the moment for awhile'. Well, I showed HER.....

I just put the tassle and hood over my head for the photo op.

I'm thinking 'how nice of her to share with me'...... and she's thinking 'get your OWN degree sis-tah!'

Guess some things are not meant to be shared. Anyway, we had a great time even though our husbands had to miss their weekly tennis game to attend the ceremony.

It took many long hours in front of the computer to accomplish this degree, so Congratulations Yvonne for a job well done!! Can I wear your cap and gown when you get your Doctorate??

God's in His Heaven, All's Right with the World!

It's been a busy month for me so I haven't had time to post anything lately.  A few days ago while sitting on the patio having dinner with my best friend in the Southlake Town Square, the sky suddenly turned into this incredible, colorful palette.  It literally took my breath away.  I only had my IPhone 4 camera to capture this beautiful sunset, but I think any camera could have captured the amazing colors.  I can't describe it any other way besides 'spiritual'.  The photo speaks for itself....

D-Day Plus 4

The memories I have of my daddy are few and far between since he passed away when I was only 4 years old.  My memories come from the stories I have been told and from the few mementos I hold dear.  Thanks to Facebook and the opportunity it gives us to hook up with old and new friends, I was able to connect with a dear high school friend, Mike Flores, who is in Iraq as we speak.  He mentioned in one of his posts that flag requests could be made in honor of veterans.  I sent him a note to see if it would be possible to request one in honor/memory of my father.  He replied immediately to get as much information as I could give him regarding my dad's military history, and then he took it upon himself to find out even more than I ever realized was available.  I was amazed at how much information he was able to come up with on my dad's military history.  I have copies of it all.

My favorite story that I always share, is that my daddy was 'D-Day plus 4' which means he was in Normandy 4 days after D-day.  He was an engineer and he was there to build roads and airstrips for the continued invasion of Germany.

Mike sent me a preview of the document that would come with the flag so that I could make sure everything was correct.  Here is the actual certificate.

I was thrilled to find the package on my door step a few days ago.  I had been anxiously waiting for it and had hoped it would be here during Thanksgiving so my sisters could be with me when it arrived.  Mike warned me that mail is very slow coming from that part of the world.

I took the package outside to the back yard since it was such a beautiful day.  I love opening packages, and even though I knew what this was, I was so excited.

I absolutely get chills when I think of how carefully and respectfully this flag was folded by soldiers as it was brought down from the flag pole.  Whoever you are, I thank you!

As soon as I unwrapped it, I set it up next to my daddy's Army photo.

THANK YOU SO MUCH MIKE FOR DOING THIS FOR ME.  I LOVE YOU FOR THAT!!!

I will cherish this forever!
