I got this sweater at a Goodwill store for $2.99.  I'm not sure why it was on a 'clearance' rack but I didn't ask.  It's very, very large, bulky, and warm.  I just threw it over a pair of leggings, and a tall boot, (besides my orthopedic boot) and off I went.  I felt like I was in my jammies all day long.

While I was out today, I happened upon a really cool store in Irving, Texas called 'Upscale Resale'.  I just happened to catch it out of the corner of my eye and had to throw on the brakes to just make the turn in to the parking lot.  Turns out the store takes donations and the proceeds assist people in crisis and young pregnant women that need pre-natal care.  I didn't have time to try on anything, but I asked the volunteer if I could snap a photo of one of the beautiful evening dresses he had on display.  This is just one sampling of what they sell there.  Prices were CHEAP!!  This dress was marked $12.99 and they were having a 25% off sale.  If you're in the area, you should stop in.  http://www.lifesaversfoundation.org/resaleshop.shtml  They had lots of evening wear and tons of jeans.  They even had beautiful furniture.

Dressy Denim

Who knew a simple denim jacket could be so eye-catching?  All it takes is a few decorative beads around the sleeves and collar to dress it up and a price tag of $6.00 to make it so attractive.  I found the necklace at First Monday this past summer.  Instead of my usual routine of browsing the arbors, I decided to walk the outdoor grounds.  I saw this necklace marked at $8.00 thinking what a 'steal' it was, and as I was deciding if I really wanted/needed it, the vendor must have decided that I thought it was too expensive.  She came over to me, looked at the price tag, and out of the blue, said 'you can have that for $3.00. WOW.  I felt a little guilty, but later reminded myself that I did not ASK her to lower the price, she just offered.  What could I say???

The most expensive shoe (singular) I own!

Ok, I'm really NOT complaining, BUT...

Cute leather flower skirt - $4.99

Corduroy split tabbed hem jacket - $2.99

Belt with 'diamonds' - $1.00

Necklace - FREE (a friend at work gave me a bag full of fabulous costume jewelry she no longer wanted- LUCKY ME!)

Orthopedic brace for torn calf - $238.00.  Bummer!

By my calculations that would equate to 26 more thrift store outfits for me.  Watch for this boot on eBay when my calf heals!!!

Shower Flower

I was just scrolling through some of my iPhone photos and found this shower cap I made a year ago. I had just come home from the hospital and I was required to take a shower instead of a tub bath. Well,,,Anyone who knows me knows that I hate showers. I'm strictly a bubble-bath gal. Anyway, I had to go purchase a shower cap and all I could find were really ugly plastic caps. NO WAY!! Needless to say, I high-tailed it over to a fabric store and bought supplies to make my own. Turned out pretty cute if I say so myself. Bling belongs everywhere. Even in the shower.

Baby Doll

I love this cotton stretchy 'baby-doll' top.  This is one of my recent thrift store finds.  It has elastic in two sections of the sleeves to give it a bit of a  'Juliet' look.  On top of that it's got the little bit of bling that I love.  Shiny purple stones enhance the giant flower on the front and a tiny little ruffle at the empire waist with a tiny shoestring tie front.  So comfy!  Guess what?  It only cost $8.00!  Let's see.....my lunch cost more than that today!

How do you dress this up??

January 25, TwentyTen

Last week I decided to do something differently on my treadmill.  Instead of running my usual 2.5-3 miles, I decided to hike up the slant to the full 15 degrees and do walking lunges.  My calves and thighs were sore as I expected, HOWEVER,, a few days later as I was coming down the stairs after my workout  I felt a 'snap'.  OUCH!  (Well, that's not exactly what I said).  I went to my favorite best-friend-orthodedic-surgeon and sure 'nuff,  I've torn a calf muscle.  Now I get to wear this clunker boot for a few weeks.  I'll have to figure out a way to make it look 'cute'.  I need some 'bling'.  Suggestions?

Tell me on a Sunday.....Please

1/24/10

What a beautiful Sunday afternoon!  No double-dose of football for me though.  I'll wait for the last five minutes of the Super Bowl and then I'll get excited, (except for the hilarious commercials).  In the meantime, today I hit a couple of new thrift stores and came home with some real bargains.  Check out this dress.  It's a very faint aqua lace with black trim all over it.  It has a net crinoline underneath to give it a little fullness. I'm looking forward to warmer weather.  I'm sure I'd wear this to a nice dinner or happy hour.  One glass of wine will cost more than the dress.  $7.99!

Just-A-Swingin'

January 23, 2010

I found this on the floor under a rack at Salvation Army Store.  I saw the fringe sticking out, reached down to kindly put it back on the rack, and look what I pulled out!  Well, as you can see, it didn't make it back to the rack,  it 'fell' in to my basket and came home to live with me.    It's all suede and none of the fringes are torn or missing.  It has a couple of grunge spots on the seams, but that's ok with me.  Sort of adds to the rough character of the vest.  It's rather heavy too.  I set my camera on a timer and speed shots and just started spinning around in a circle to capture the swing of the fringe.  I'll bet each one is 12-15 inches long.  The most fascinating thing about this vest besides the fringe, is that it cost $2.99.

Black Lace and Blue Jeans

Who says you can't wear a sexy black lace top with blue jeans and MUDD combat boots?  I got the top and boots at a thrift store and paired them with a grungie pair of jeans. I used to have a problem with buying 'pre-owned' shoes, but ....  next time you go to a fine retail store and try on shoes,  think about how many feet tried on the shoe you finally purchased??? Uh-huh!  The boots looked like they had been worn maybe once or twice so I took a chance.  Turns out they are really clunky looking, but my oh my,,,they are so comfy!!!  Good purchase!

Guess Vest Find

Wow.  This is a super soft vest made by Guess that someone got tired of.  Can't imagine why.  It is very light weight, and looks/feels like a stretchy suede fabric.  The vest overlaps in the front and has an attached tie belt that wraps around the back and ties on the side. The blouse has  'bell-bottom' sleeves with gold and silver sparkly splatters all over. I say ya gotta always have a little 'bling' going. It's made out of a crepe type fabric with a gathered v-neckline.  Great for a casual Friday dress down.

Ouchy!  I pulled a muscle in my calf on my treadmill this morning so I'm walking like 'Chester' in Gunsmoke.  With this vest and jeans, all I need is a holster and a gun and I'd fit the bill.

Have a great weekend!

Bling-Bling

I know I need to get some better lighting but for now....  Another thrifted skirt.  You can't really see but there are teeny little aqua and purple beads stitched all around this skirt.  The lining has a little row of stitching along the bottom that is a looped crochet pattern.  I wish it were long enough to stick out the bottom a little.  I guess I could shorten the skirt a tidge to make it show.  Hmmm, maybe I will!  The belt is fake turqoise and it really brings out the aqua beads.  I might have to re-do this photo after I get some lights.  It really is cute.  My boss asked if I had been to 'skirt city' the last few days.  I've been wearing all my new skirts this week and I have quite a few more.  They're more for Springtime though so I'll have to wait.

Zig-Zag

Another great thrift store find.  Ann Taylor Loft skirt.  Beautiful brown linen, fully lined, with turquoise/green embroidered stitching all around.  Cost-$8.99.  The belt was a lucky find as well.  It's silver tone metal with 'turquoise' beads.  Perfect match.

Check out this coat!

I can’t believe someone gave up this beautiful coat.  It has such a fun ‘swing’ to it and it’s very warm.  Faux something.  Not sure if it’s cheetah, leopard, or what, but I love it.  Reminds me of something from the 50s/60s that Doris Day would wear.

Zig Zag

This is an Ann Taylor Loft skirt, thrifted of course!  Cost?  $8.99.  It still had the new tags on it, so can't imagine why it was abandoned.  Very pretty brown linen with turquoise embroidered detail.  The belt is a silver metal finish with turquoise colored beads.  It cost me 50 Cents.  Perfect match!

Can someone tell me where to wear this dress??

I found it at a thrift store on Sunday and it ended up in my basket. I love it and I want to wear it. Maybe to the grocery store? Maybe to a 40 year class reunion? OMG! 40 years!! Who's responsible for getting us all together???
